The most well-known mnemonic for remembering the planets when I was a kid was: My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas. But in 2006, Pluto lost its planetary status and there were no longer nine pizzas. Creative grease-loving scientists quickly replaced the nine pizzas with nachos. Today, I teach the following sentence to anyone who cares about the order of the planets: My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nachos!
For those of you not yet following along, the first letter of each word corresponds with the first letter of the planets, in order.
My- Mercury
Very- Venus
Eager- Earth
Mother- Mars
Just- Jupiter
Served- Saturn
Us- Uranus
Nachos- Neptune
Neptune became the furthest planet from the Sun and Pluto was relegated to Dwarf planet status, as it got back to the task of cleaning out its orbit, in the hope of one day becoming planet 9 again.
Fast forward 18 years and the t-shirt featured here was born.
